About this Blog

Toward the end of each semester I look back on all my work and wonder how I managed to accomplish everything. I remember feeling overwhelmed in September at the thought of creating a personal writing blog for myself, complete with pictures, graphics, and reflections on my writing. Yet here I am, nearly three months later, with a completed ePortfolio full of all the work I’ve created this semester.

Throughout this ePortfolio, you will find the writing I produced in my course, Writing 220: Introduction to the Minor in Writing, as well as previous writing I’ve done during college. This portfolio represents the culmination of a class, but the beginning of a journey. I will be taking four more writing classes and producing many more pieces of writing in order to complete my writing minor. The real start to my writing minor journey began last fall, when a friend of mine told me about the minor. As someone who has always loved writing but gave up English classes to go pre-med in college, I was excited for the opportunity to continue with a passion of mine. As you’ll find out from my “Why I Write Piece,” I write to gain a deeper understanding about myself and the world. I write to reflect, as I am doing at this very moment.

On this site you will find three major projects from Writing 220: “Why I Write,” “Repurposing” and “Remediation.” The “Why I Write Piece” details my love/hate relationship with writing. The “Repurposing Project” is a rewritten version of a piece I wrote freshman year, and the “Remediation Project” takes this piece and presents it in a different medium. Each piece starts with an introduction and reflection, and earlier drafts as well as bibliographies are included at the bottom of each page. The rest of my work is from writing I have done inside and outside of classes at the University of Michigan. I chose my best work from a wide range of genres in order to showcase the various ways I am capable of expressing myself through the written word.

For my website title, I chose the phrase "New Perspectives" as a way to introduce my ePortfolio theme. Much of the writing in this class involved rethinking a previous idea, and I wanted a way to acknowledge this change in perspective. In keeping consistent with my theme, I chose pictures that I took from zoomed-out perspectives, which contrast with the perspectives we are used to in every-day life. Too often during this course I became bogged down with tiny details and forgot to look at the big picture. Now that my ePortfolio is complete, I am able to zoom out and appreciate the beauty of what I’ve created. I hope that the bird's-eye views I have included will serve as a reminder to readers to step back and gain perspective.

Enjoy!
